WORKSHOPS:

GROW YOUR CRAFT

PHYSICAL COMEDY

Taught by Mark Jaster and Sabrina Mandell

WHAT:    This workshop explores physical techniques that support comic performance, with exercises in stillness, reaction, focus, clarity of mimetic gesture, illusion, physical characterization, the divided self, status in the duo and trio, the inclusion of the audience, and clown.  Mark draws on his training with Étienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau. Sabrina draws on her training in the LeCoq pedagogy with Dody DiSanto with concentration in the realm of the theatrical clown.  Their complementary approaches combine to address nuts-and-bolts physical, technical and structural skills and the more esoteric issues of honesty, presence and accessibility.

MIME TECHNIQUE

Taught by Mark Jaster

WHAT:   Mark Jaster, who studied Mime with Étienne Decroux and served as Marcel Marceau's teaching assistant, offers a workshop in Mime technique, drawing on exercises he learned from Decroux and Marceau, exploring topics of articulation and clarity, the balance of form and content, illusion, physical characterization, and the creation and critique of student material.

We’ll open the physical tool box, see and sharpen what’s there, find and fill in what's missing.
